I am grateful for a phone conversation I had with my dad today. We haven’t talked in over a week for various reasons so we finally caught up a bit today. I wish we had more time to talk, but I am at work so I can’t really talk for long. Plus, my dad does not like to talk on the phone for more than 5 or 10 minutes. He is better with face-to-face conversations.
More than the conversation, though, I am grateful that I can lean on my dad for certain things. I didn’t always value his advice, but now that I’m older and more experienced I appreciate his insight (even if I don’t always agree with it).
Above all else, the thing I love about my dad is that he is eternally optimistic. He is someone who finds a way to see the positive in just about every situation possible. That doesn’t mean he can’t deal with sadness and grief; it just means that he has hope. For me, who frequently falls into hopelessness, I find my father’s faith in the world reassuring.
So, thanks, Dad. I love you.
