I’m grateful my son didn’t not have a complete meltdown when I took him for a short visit to his new daycare. He’s never been in daycare or preschool with children his own age.
I take that back.
As a baby, he was in daycare, but when my husband got sick I found a nanny. So my son doesn’t remember being in daycare.
He handled the new faces fairly well, though I could see through the window that their friendliness made him a bit shocked. Frankly, I was shocked at how friendly they were. One of them kept hugging my middle daughter as if they were best friends. I was like, ‘A little sense of boundaries here!‘ but rolled with the exchange. I’m not sure 2-year-old’s really have boundaries.
My little guy didn’t have a meltdown when I picked him up either. Granted, he was only there for an hour, but I’m grateful it was as smooth as it was. He didn’t talk the entire time he was there (he stops talking when he’s in a new situation), but I’m proud of him anyway.
Tomorrow I take him in for longer and will see if he eats lunch there. He’s a picky eater so he’ll either refuse to eat or let peer pressure do its thing. Either way, it’s the beginning of a new stage in our lives.
